Vessel transfers

6min

Once a batch has been transferred to a primary vessel from your brewing system, you can transfer in and out of your vessels as often as you need, and each transfer action is automatically logged.

Starting a transfer

You can transfer a batch or part of a batch directly from the batch screen or from the production dashboard.

Directly from the batch

If you have already selected a batch, then you will be able to transfer this batch by selecting Actions->Transfer between vessels. This will show a preview of your equipment schedule for the batch. This displays your 'planned' use alongside your 'actual' use, so you know whether you are transferring this on the scheduled date. It will show the planned vessel so you can see if you are transferring this to the vessel that you had originally planned to use. In the example below, the equipment schedule indicates that this transfer is too early compared to what has been planned.

The vessels holding this batch will be listed under Which vessel are you transferring from? where you will be able to simply select the vessel that you are transferring the beer from.

From the production dashboard

You can also start a batch transfer by selecting Actions->Transfer on the production dashboard. You will then see all of your vessels that have in-progress batches in them and you will need to select the vessel containing the batch you want to transfer from its current vessel.

Completing a transfer

After selecting the vessel you are transferring from, you will need to select the vessel you are transferring into under Which vessel are you transferring to ?; this will likely be the vessel you have scheduled to use, but you will have the flexibility to select any of the empty available vessels if your schedule has changed at the last minute.

Once you have selected the vessel your are transferring into, you will be taken to the transfer details screen. The time completed field will be automatically set to the current time and date; however, you will be able to override this. You can then enter the Volume transferred successfully, and there is a shortcut button here to enter the full quantity for the transfer.

It is possible to transfer into any vessel, including one that already contains another batch, so long as there is capacity remaining in that vessel, but this will create a "blend". This is covered in more detail in our Blending beer/drinksο»Ώ guide.

You may have losses that you wish to record here, so you can enter a Volume lost during transfer. If any remaining volume that was not successfully transferred was lost, use the blue button to have Breww enter the remaining volume into this box, which will waste any remaining volume. If you do not wish to enter an amount or do not yet know the amount lost, you can simply enter 0 here. This field is mandatory so you will either need to enter an amount lost or enter 0.

You can also provide a 'reason' for this loss and select any used equipment, such as a pump.

If you have chosen to waste the remaining volume, then when you selectNext, you will get a transfer summary, where you can complete the transfer, go back to the previous step, or go back to the start.

If you have left a volume in the vessel and selected Next, then you will have three Split strategy options shown.

1. Keep one batch and split it across the two vessels If you are simply moving a proportion of a batch from one vessel to another, then select this option.

2. Create a new batch with the volume transferred If you would like to give the proportion of the batch being transferred a new batch number, then select this option. You can read more about splitting batches here: Splitting batchesο»Ώ.

3. Start planned "Derived in vessel" batch with the volume transferred. If you have a planned Derived in vessel batch (see this article for more infoο»Ώ), then you will be able to start this 'Derived in vessel' batch here using the proportion of that batch being transferred.
