Bright beer

3min

In Breww, we strongly recommend not creating multiple products using the same beer and container type combination; there is one exception to this - bright beer!

However, there is a key setting in the product creation, which means there is a distinct difference between the two products when created; the bright product's taxable volume will match the container's gross volume as opposed to the usual taxable capacity shown on a product. For example, for a firkin with sediment, the gross container may be '40.914 L' and the taxable '39.5 L'; however, the bright product you create will have a gross and taxable liquid volume of '40.914 L'.

Creating a bright product

If you follow the usual Product creation flow of Products->New product. When naming your product, you will want to clearly define this as the bright version.

As you follow the product creation flow, an additional option will show for Product is bright beer (non-sedimented). This causes the full fill (gross) capacity of the container to be taxable; this checkbox should be selected.

Once you have created the product, it will be tagged as Bright beer. You will also notice that the taxable liquid volume for this product is the same as the container gross volume.

The theoretical max stock figure will be shared with the 'standard' cask-conditioned product. The example shows that I have '0' bright firkins in stock, but as the theoretical max is shared, I know that I could, in theory, decant from my standard stock to create bright firkins; you can, of course, also rack bright products directly from vessel.

If you are racking from one container into another to package bright beer, then our How do I rack directly from a container into another container, such as a minicask, keg or bottle?ο»Ώ article guides you through this process flow.

How to see bright and cask-conditioned stock figures when raising an order

When raising orders, it may be beneficial to have the Which stock figure would you like displayed for a product when adding it to an order? setting in Settings->Order/invoice settings set to Display both the "Theoretical max available" and the "Available" stock figure. This will mean that when raising an order for a bright firkin, you will be able to see the amount you have in stock in that format next to what you could theoretically re-rack from your standard stock. For more information, see this guide: Setting the stock figure to display when adding a product to an orderο»Ώ.
